The thing is, Lance doesn’t have regular Altean marks. They glow.
Unlike Coran’s and Romelle’s, and just like Allura and Lotor’s.
Glowing marks are specifically called marks of the chosen, and are not the same as typical Altean marks.
Lotor clarifies that powers of the chosen include being deeply connected to ancient Altean magic, allowed into Oriande, and the ability to shapeshift.
Some people have been saying that he received the marks because Allura “chose” him (romantically, metaphorically) and they have nothing to do with actual powers, but the thing is, Lotor & Allura were also specificallychosen–by the lifegivers and the ancient Alteans she connected with in Oriande.
The kind of being that Allura has now ascended to be.
Allura bestowed the marks of the chosen on to Lance just as they were bestowed on to herself and Lotor and Lotor being chosen proves that pure Altean blood is not necessary to be chosen. I think it’s possible that Lance could still be chosen both later in life and as a human.
I don’t think Lance “turned Altean.” He was granted the understanding of ancient Altean magic and alchemy and while the show never alludes to this whatsoever and the marks are potentially just a last minute thing that they threw on to him, the TLDR is that following what canon has presented to us in the past, Lance theoretically could now make the next big sentient robot if he wanted…assuming that Allura’s sacrifice restored Oriande and the white lion, which I don’t know why not, as it did restore everything else, even Altea and Daibazaal.
How have we not considered that Lance should go to Oriande, learn its secrets (but see Allura there next to the White Lion Guardian who is one of her familiars), and she gives him the power of life giving that she once had?
He could literally do whatever he wanted, but in times of bad harvest or food crisis this beautiful boy comes by, touches the ground or dead crop and it just EXPLODES with life??
